The Life and Times of Gary Lee… the Reader’s Digest version:
Born in Queens, NY…raised in Roslyn, NY. Went to college in Boston… some stories to tell there…not suitable for print though! Was Assistant manager of Paul’s Mall and the Jazz Workshop…at that time, the biggest night club complex in New England. Settled in Ft. Lauderdale after college where I began my illustrious career in radio…OK, maybe extensive is a better word. Worked at stations in Ft. Lauderdale, New Bern and Farmville, North Carolina, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico… yes, there really is such a place…Roswell, New Mexico. Also worked at stations in Odessa, Midland and Beaumont, Texas.
On to San Diego…the year was 1982…my first job here was bartender at a strip joint…hey, the glasses aren’t gonna fill themselves! Owned my own mobile DJ company for ten years. Eventually got back into radio…a job at The KOW in Escondido…KSON in 1997 for a year… to our sister station KBEST 95 (and all it’s transitions) for five years. Then, news and traffic reporter for Metro Networks…back at KSON in 2005. Also, Voice of the Fair at the San Diego County Fair.
Family life…married in 1987…divorced six and a half years later… happiest day of my life! Lovingly think of the ex when “Here’s A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)” comes on the radio. Three beautiful daughters…one granddaughter…another grandkid on the way…and a psycho dog who loves to play footsies.
