San Diego's Number 1 for New Country KSON and The USS Midway are offering free tickets to the Midway Museum for those who make a food drive donation on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Navy Pier as part of the Midway’s “Salute to Heroes” celebration and the community dedication of “The Kiss” – a 25-foot sculpture of a sailor kissing a nurse.
Both events will take place on Sat., Feb. 16. “The Kiss” sculpture’s community dedication will take place (next to the Fish Market Restaurant) at 10 a.m. And the “Salute to Heroes” will follow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be live music, activities for kids, a radio station presence, and opportunities to be among the first to get your photo taken under “The Kiss!” Both events are free and open to the public.
The Food Bank will have a booth and our famous red food drive collection barrels at the event. In addition, the San Diego Humane Society will be at the event and attendees will have the opportunity to adopt a pet.
The “Salute to Heroes” will be especially memorable because couples married in World War II will renew their vows under “The Kiss” which is formally entitled “Unconditional Surrender.” The permanent 25-foot sculpture has been cast and is awaiting preparation of the site next to the USS Midway Museum.
Parking is very limited, so public transportation and allowing time to walk from nearby lots is recommended. Seating also will be limited, so consider bringing a lightweight lawn chair. The community dedication of “The Kiss” will last no more than one hour.
This great day is made possible by the hundreds of Midway supporters and other San Diegans who donated to “The Kiss” campaign.
The Food Bank is encouraging our supporters to visit this fun day out and support the Food Bank with a food drive donation!
Stop by the KSON tent from Noon-2pm~~the first 25 people who make a food donation or adopt a pet will get a $5 Subway gift card.
