Teachers are Heroes

About Teachers Are Heroes
This year, the Azusa Pacific University’s Teachers are Heroes Award celebrates 17 years of recognizing dedicated and inspirational Public, Charter  and Private Elementary School Teachers across San Diego County.  San Diego County has 780 schools and 120 charter schools, 42 school districts serving more 500,000 students. In all, there are more than 26,000 public school teachers throughout the County. And only 12 will be recognized as the Azusa Pacific University’s Teachers Are Hero Award recipient in 2017/18. Every year, more than 150 nomination letters are submitted to the Selection Committee.  Each letter is carefully reviewed utilizing a criteria on how a teacher displays inspiration, enthusiasm, service and is respected by students, teachers and colleagues and parents. When a teacher is selected, with the help of the San Diego County Office of Education, representatives of Azusa Pacific University and the radio station will make a formal “surprise” presentation to our honored teacher.

For our Teachers & Students

As an appreciation, each honored Teacher receives the following:  a gift card to purchase school supplies for their classroom; a classroom pizza party provided by Papa John’s Pizza and an end-of-school year Teacher celebration featuring more than 800 students from across San Diego County at LEGOLAND California Resort.
