Updated: Second, Colder Storm With Rain, Snow, Arriving Friday

Winter arrived Wednesday morning at 2:44am - and it's kicking off the season with a couple of wet storms for Southern California.

Our rain from the first, warmer storm has been tapering off tonight (Thursday).

The second storm, arriving on Friday (12/23), will bring much colder temperatures, more rain, wind and maybe even some snow for our mountains.  

We could get a half to an inch and a half of rain along the coast, even more in the mountains, and our snow levels could drop to around 3,000 feet with most of the snow above the 5,000 foot level.

It's possible that our highest mountain elevations could enjoy a white Christmas!  If you decide to hit the snow over the weekend, please drive safely and check road conditions before you head out!

We should get a chance to dry out a little on Christmas Day, but another storm could bring more showers when we get into the new week.

On Thursday, the National Weather Service posted the following winter weather message:

SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER IMPACTS POSSIBLE LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH CHRISTMAS EVE... .A VERY COLD WINTRY STORM WILL DROP INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FRIDAY EVENING, BRINGING PERIODS OF HEAVY PRECIPITATION THROUGH SATURDAY, ALONG WITH VERY STRONG WESTERLY WINDS. SNOW LEVELS WILL START OUT HIGH, BUT BEHIND A STRONG COLD FRONT, SNOW LEVELS WILL QUICKLY TUMBLE FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY. THIS MAY BRING ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL DOWN TO THE BUSY HIGHWAY TRAVEL CORRIDORS BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS, VERY COLD AND BLUSTERY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.
