GOODWILL OPENS NEW DONATION AND ELECTRONIC DROP-OFF LOCATION IN SANTEE

San Diego, CA – Goodwill Industries of San Diego County is pleased to announce the opening of a staffed Goodwill Storefront Donation Center in Santee in the Best Buy/CVS center; a block east of the popular, almost 3 year old, retail store. Goodwill’s new Storefront Donation Center will make it much easier, and more convenient, for Santee residents to drop off items without fighting the traffic surrounding their retail store.

One of Goodwill’s basic strategies is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. This storefront donation center also accepts donations of computers, televisions, cell phones, plastic bags, printer cartridges, and other electronics; and will sell new Goodwill logo items that have a “ reduce and reuse” connection.

“We listened, Santee!” said Beth Forsberg, Vice President of Operations. Local residents now have the choice of bringing their items into the Storefront, or dropping them off at the back door. “You can still donate and shop at the retail store, but now we’ve given you a second more convenient option” she added.

Goodwill invites local residents to stop in, or drive by, to drop off clean reusable clothing, gently used household goods, and (working or non-working) computers, televisions and other electronics. Donating to Goodwill helps the organization hire and train San Diegans - and assists others in their job search free of charge.

Goodwill Industries of San Diego County is an autonomous, local 501( c) 3 not-for-profit organization, part of an international network of independent charities sharing a common vision. Goodwill’s mission is ‘To get people with disabilities and other barriers to employment jobs by developing their skills and work habits through training and real work.’ Our purpose is ‘Getting People Jobs’. We offer job related programs that serve people with varying levels of ability, giving everyone the skills, the time, and the confidence to get to work. San Diego's Goodwill chooses NOT to conduct traditional fundraising activities; we use the revenue we gain from selling donated items; fee-for-service, reuse, recycling and salvage activities to fund the operation of paid job training programs and employment services. The things you no longer need become the product we use to give real work experience to your neighbors. The local Goodwill has nearly 1,300 employees in San Diego County, and is headquartered in Pt. Loma.

Hello, San Diego...

We are the Peer Educators from Counseling and Psychological Services at San Diego State University. As Peer Educators, our mission is to reduce the stigma of mental illness and increase awareness about mental health on our campus (through outreach and advocacy) and in San Diego in general. We have a "shoot for the stars" plan to produce local and national attention for this issue.

Our plan: We recently finished making a video to get Bradley Cooper to come to SDSU and speak on behalf of mental illness. If we succeed in creating enough publicity to get Bradley Cooper to come to SDSU, we plan to organize a San Diego community-wide expo with resources available for friends and families whose lives are affected by mental illness.

Bradley Cooper has become an advocate for mental health after his role in the movie Silver Linings Playbook. We know it's possible! Please watch and SHARE OUR VIDEO...

We have already had a number of responses from several students on campus to this video, and we know this could extend to a larger number if this was shared outside of the San Diego State University community.

We have had emails from students who have gone through the feeling of loneliness, depression and other various psychological problems saying that it is such a relief to see that people are trying to reach out and knowing they are not alone. We believe that if we can get the message out that people care about those suffering, the statistics that go along with mental illness could potentially decrease. We want change to happen.

At this meeting, we will be electing new officers and introducing our new members that have joined during this season. The luncheon is open to all East County women as well as past and future members.

The Club’s 100^th anniversary is in 2014 and our goal is to have 100 members!

The USS Midway Museum will host a veterans wreath remembrance ceremony, designed to encourage family attendance as a way to inspire patriotism and appreciation for those who serve. The event is free to the public, and admission to the museum following the event also is free to event attendees.

Once a year the museum hangar bays are transformed into a Discovery Zone including active military command units, special exhibits, restoration activities, military equipment and more!

Meet and talk with pilots that have flown the type of aircraft on board the museum. Pilots will be stationed by each aircraft on the ship and available for questions! A unique opportunity to learn about flying first hand with the experts!

May 26th - Live in Concert, Navy Band Region Southwest 40 piece band! at 2:30pm.

Enjoy a live 40-piece Navy Band concert! This exciting and rare opportunity to experience the United States Navy Band perform, will take place on the flight deck of the Midway. Concert is free with paid museum admission.

May 26th - Red Cross Blood Drive 10am-3pm

May 27th - Memorial Day Ceremony 12:30pm. American legion Post 492 will host a special Memorial Day ceremony on the flight deck. Heroes will be remembered and honored in this inspiring event. The ceremony will include performances and guest speakers.

On Saturday, May 25th all Active Duty Military and their families are invited to enjoy the day's events FREE of charge at Vail Lake, Temecula. It is a ‘thank-you’ for your service to America.

Schedule of events beginning Saturday morning:

7:00am - Fishing tournament with 150 boats w/ a Wounded Warrior in every boat. Weigh-in 3:00.

12:00pm - Reenactment of Civil War.

1:00pm - Band-a-rama: The Silverado’s, Del Rio, Blackstar, Dixie Deceivers and the Drinking Cowboy Band.

7:00pm - Special stars Montgomery Gentry.

DIRECTIONS:

From San Diego I-5 N to 8 E to 15 N to 79 S/Temecula Pkwy. Turn right East for 9-miles to entrance.

From LA Take I-10, 60 or 91 E to I-15 S to 79 S/Temecula Pkwy. Take exit left and head East 9-miles.
